Glory, hospital, treatment, chemo drug

Wednesday
Glory has not started treatment yet. We are waiting for the report on her liver function, lung function, heart function, and kidney function. She has decided to take a phase 1/2 trial protocol in Pediatric with Refractory or Relapse Acute Leukemia. She will be the last person in this trial phase 1.
The trial is composed of:
1.Clofarabine -- a new chemo drug,
2.Etoposide
3.Cyclophosphamide

Induction cycle : The purpose of the induction cycle is to get her into complete remission. 5 days of treatment with all 3 drugs =1 cycle. She may need more than 1 induction cycle. It will have to depend on how the cancer cells react to the drugs, which will be determined by a bone marrow aspirate 14 post treatment.

Consolidation course: 4 days of treatment with all 3 drugs

She will eventually need to have another transplant.
The most common side effect of these drugs:
1. Nausea , feeling tired
2. Vomiting, chills, loss of appetite
3. Low blood count with fever
4. Diarrhea, abdominal pain
5. Itching, skin redness, swelling, soreness
6. Infections, including, fungal, viral, and bacterial infections
7. Hair loss
8. Lower number of platelets in her bone marrow that may cause her to bleed more easily.
There are also some rare and serious side effects that could possibly cause organ damage.

Please prayer for her treatment, which will start on June 15 morning, and for strength so that she will be well enough to get the second transplant after this treatment.

Thanks
Roycos
