The Google Mobile App for iPhone and iPod touch devices is a free application that gives you easy access to Google Mobile products and lets you quickly search your device or the web for whatever info you need. You can get Google Search results just like on a computer by either entering a query and tapping 'Search' or tapping the microphone and speaking your query. When you start typing a search query the Google Mobile App will give the following types of suggested results based on what you've entered:
- My Location search option to see relevant business results near your current approximate location in Google Maps
- Contacts on your device
- Search history
- Websites
You also get easy access to any of the free Google Mobile products available for iPhone and iPod touch devices by tapping the 'Apps' tab on the homescreen. Select any product's icon to quickly open it.
To get the Google Mobile App on your iPhone or iPod touch device, make sure your device has the latest version 2.0 firmware or above and follow these general steps:
1. Select the App Store icon on your device's home screen.
2. Search the App Store for the Google Mobile App.
3. Tap Free > Install and sign into your iTunes account if necessary.
A Google icon will appear on your homescreen with a status bar for the download and installation.
You can also install the App by searching for Google Mobile App from the App Store in iTunes, downloading it, and syncing applications between iTunes and your device.
Getting Started: Searching
You can get Google Search results just like on a computer by entering a query and tapping Search on the keyboard or by tapping the microphone icon and speaking your query. After opening results, you can tap the search box or microphone to perform a new search.
You can easily change the type of search by tapping the magnifying glass dropdown menu next to the search box. You can then restrict your search type and suggested results to any of the following options:
- iPhone and Web
- Maps (Local Business Listings)
- Images
- News
- Shopping
- Wikipedia
For some search types, you'll receive instant results below the search bar as you type in your query.
Getting Started: Suggested results
Once you start typing a search query, the Google Mobile App will automatically suggest any of the following items based on what you've entered:
- My Location search option to see relevant business results near your current approximate location in Google Maps
- Contacts on your iPhone or iPod Touch
- Search history based on your previous searches
- Websites based on popular sites for your query
You can turn off any of these suggested results in the Settings menu by tapping the 'Settings' tab from the App's homescreen.
